German midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger has joined Everton on a short-term deal that will keep him at the club until January.
The 30-year-old, who has had previous spells in the Premier League with Aston Villa and West Ham, had been without a club since his contract with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg expired at the end of last season.
The former Germany international has signed in time to gain international clearance and is available to be part of Everton s matchday squad for QPR on Sunday.
Hitzlsperger had been training with Everton since the start of the season and recently featured in an under-21 league game as an allocated over-aged player.
His last stint in England came in 2010 when he signed for West Ham on a free transfer.

Diego Godin says the Uruguay national should be given more respect by their supporters following tournament success.
Uruguay have failed to win any of their last four qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, and have dropped to fifth in the standings, prompting criticism from fans.
Godin, who was part of the side that finished fourth at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and lifted the Copa America a year later, has insisted the team s achievements should not be forgotten.
Inside the camp we re keeping calm, but when criticism comes your way it does bother you how short people s memories are, the former Villarreal man told the FIFA website.

Erling Haaland scored a perfect hat-trick inside 38 minutes to make history as Manchester City crushed Nottingham Forest 6-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
Having put City 2-0 up with two early close-range finishes, Haaland converted from John Stones header to make it nine goals in his first five Premier League matches – a new competition record.
Joao Cancelo then extended City s lead further with a fine long-range effort, before Julian Alvarez opened his Premier League account with two more goals on his first start.
The dominant win ensured Pep Guardiola s side maintained their unbeaten start to the new season and laid down an ominous marker to any would-be challengers, with the champions now fully up to speed.

Former Czech Republic boss Karel Bruckner underlined his 2010 World Cup ambitions for Austria as he was officially unveiled on Monday as their new coach.
Bruckner, 68, explained that his contract would run until the end of the qualifying period for the World Cup in the autumn of 2009 and would be automatically extended if they book their place.
He added that former Austrian international Andreas Herzog, 39, would remain in his post as deputy coach.
Bruckner quit his post with the Czech Republic after their first round exit from last month s European championships.
He takes over from Austrian Josef Hickersberger, who also stepped aside after his side fell in the first round of Euro 2008.
Bruckner will take charge of his first game on August 2…
Crystal Palace are close to securing a loan deal for Chelsea striker Loic Remy, .
The Eagles are keen to continue strengthening their front line after smashing their transfer record to bring in Christian Benteke last week, and have identified Remy as a target with the France international falling out of favour under new Blues boss Antonio Conte.
The twenty-nine year old has Diego Costa and Michy Batshuyai ahead of him in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and looks likely to seal a move away before Wednesday’s transfer deadline.
Remy moved to Chelsea from Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 2014 and has since racked up forty-seven appearances in all competitions, scoring twelve goals while he was part of the squad that won both the League Cup and Premier…

Hamburger SV are a big step closer to the final of the 2009 UEFA Cup, beating Werder Bremen 0-1 in the opening leg of the semi finals.
The only goal of the match came after 28 minutes. Polish-born Piotr Trochowski stood at the far post to head home from a Guy Demel cross. Keeper Tim Wiese got his fingers to it but the header was too powerful to be parried.
In the second half, Bremen applied more pressure on their opponent in the hunt for an equaliser. However, Martin Jol s men held on to their narrow but possibly vital lead.
Based on the performance in the second half, Bremen were the slightly better side in this game and will be highly disappointed with the defeat.
The second leg will be played in Hamburg on May 7th.

Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh has made it clear that he won t be staying at the Emirates for much longer.
The Moroccan has had a pretty disappointing start to his career in England and has started just one Premier League game for the Gunners over the last two season.
He has spent the second part of the current campaign on loan at West Ham, but could only make three league appearances there.
The player is, therefore, looking to leave the Gunners at the end of the season and admits a return to Bordeaux could be on the cards.
I am always nostalgic. I spent so many good times here, he told reporters in France. Everyone knows that Bordeaux is a club that is in my heart. If I find an agreement with Bordeaux, why not.
It was at Bordeaux that the pl…
West Ham have had a bid for Borussia Dortmund s Andriy Yarmolenko accepted, have reported.

India s wealthiest man Mukesh Ambani denied Tuesday a British newspaper report that he was in a race to take over Liverpool football club.
But another Indian businessman reportedly in the running for the Merseyside club appeared more circumspect.
The Times of London reported that Ambani, the world s seventh-richest man, was one of two tycoons from the subcontinent competing to purchase a stake in Liverpool.
The paper said Ambani s Reliance Industries and Sahara Group chairman Subrata Roy had each tendered similar bids to pay off Liverpool s 237 million pound (370 million dollar) debts in return for a 51 percent stake in the club.
There is no truth to the report. We deny it completely, Reliance spokeswoman Sudeep Purkayastha told AFP.
Ambani is w…
